Misleading title and quality of information

This book has a totally misleading title as there are only about 105 strategies given in this small double spaced book. The author on one of the last pages states that "if you purchased my first book, you now have over 200 strategies to use". Many of the suggestions such as taking the students to dinner in a restaurant or take students to see colleges (however well intentioned are hard to justify in these days of NCLB and budget deficits) A few useful and practical suggestions given..ie positive role models..graduation goal setting for highschool and college are relevant for all students. Buyer beware!! Limited value for experienced teachers. Publishing company does not feel the title is misrepresentation of what is in the book. Huumh.

This book was the biggest waste of my money!!! If I could have given it 0 stars, I would have. I tried to keep an open mind while reading it. I was really hoping to find some useful strategies to help me help my African American students succeed. There was nothing in this book to help me. One of her suggestions is to stop using so many "dittos". Excuse me but the ditto machine died decades ago. It felt as though she wrote this book in the 80s. In addition to that, the title suggests that the book contains more than 200 strategies, but it doesn't. It only contains a little over 100. If you want her first 100, you have to buy her first book. I threw the book away. Can't believe I wasted my money on it. Don't waste yours!
