Great Continuing Progressive Method.

Update info: This book could be considered JUST and Introduction to basic VERBS! I imagine Book 3 will be the VERB book to go to?
This Series is Heavily focused on Verbs and Particles. Right away your into Verbs!
Even though its titled Katakana, it doesnt focus on that much at all, other than a few introductory examples at the start of each chapter as in Volume 1. But thats ok! Its the same as the Hiragana approach of Volume 1. But since your not getting a whole lot of Katakana words, you just simply have to learn that on your own. No Biggy! Same approach as Hiragana.

This Series is just Packed full with example sentences/Q & A and conversations. Very useful.
Along with introducing new words/phrases/verbs and particles, it just goes about giving all the examples possible to learn sentence relationships of all these, and the sentence structure of each ones Use.
It does NOT disappoint on progressively detailed examples.

This Series does seem shorter? Im half way through. But your getting like Quadruple the amount of examples as with previous Series 1.
And its not just to say its a book filled with nothing but examples. Not at all. It just keeps Building On.. and Progressing on Many Topics.
You will easily correlate Katakana, even though it is NOT heavily exampled with Katakana words. Katakana seems harder for me than Hiragana. But I do find myself keeping up with each new chapter.

This series is Slow with katakana use. But EVERYTHING Else speeds along with A lot of Detail.
This continues to be a Very good series.

Editing issues but Good 2nd book in the Series

Another great book after book 1. Although I only gave 3 stars cause it is not as refined as book 1. There are some issues all over the book that missed editing that I found when comparing my answers. If not careful may mess you up. It almost seems that not enough thought went into finding the errors. Maybe a good thing cause you have to double check your work.
On the other hand, it gets you using more Japanese and is a great addition. Plus is has the answer key right after the chapter which is cool and helpful. Glad I bought it and can't wait to finish to get to book 3.

The best Japanese books !!!

Amazing book! The author is a wonderful teacher as well as a great person. You can watch his videos on YouTube, just search for the name of his book "Japanese from Zero" and you'll find them, and you can judge for yourself if you like his style of teaching.
He makes it much easier to learn than any other books I've used before.

This new work is the first systematic documentation of the human consequences of the Viet-Nam War. Based on American, Vietnamese, and international records, as well as a wealth of personal experience and eyewitness accounts, it examines the scope of the tragedy, what was done to cope with it, and what lessons can be drawn from the experience.

Wiesner argues that the tragedy of the war itself was appreciably worsened by forced relocations and that this suffering could not have been relieved, because the amount of land on which the largely rural evacuees could be safely resettled was repeatedly diminished by Communist incursions and the demands of combat. Meanwhile, American bombing of the North, much less destructive to civilians than fighting and bombing in the South, was used by the totalitarian regime to instill hatred against the United States and its South Vietnamese ally. When in 1975 the North Vietnamese overran the entire South, masses of Vietnamese, for the first time in their history, fled from their country.

Timely contribution.

The Vietnam War instigated by Ho Chi Minh caused 12 million people to be forcibly relocated: one out of two South Vietnamese had been a refugee at some point in their lives.
Anti-communist ideology was the cause of the 1954-55 exodus during which one million left North Vietnam for the South. From 1966-72, artillery, bombing, communist repression forced peasants to leave their villages to migrate to cities. The atrocities of the Viet Cong during and after the 1968 Tet attack caused people "to vote with their feet": they ran away as soon as they heard communists were coming. This was also the cause of the 1975 diaspora during which two million people escaped Vietnam on rickety boats. At least 500,000 others drowned or died from other causes at sea.

The author who is to be congratulated for his in-depth analysis of this important problem.

Texans are still looking at Lyndon

I have read this book no fewer than 10 times. I actually worked for a family that was very close to Lyndon and were the recipients of untold wealth because of it. As tax payers, my parents paid for the perks that Lyndon garnished for himself and others. The Kwajalein Island project which should have cost 6 million dollars was awarded to a firm who employed Lyndon's brother. with the help of then Secretary of the Navy, Texan John Connally, this contract was awarded on a cost plus basis. This eventually cost the tax payers of this Country 16 million dollars. I hesitate to provide specifics about this event. After I read this book and others on the subject, it made me keenly aware of what our distinguished politicians will resort to. A lot of people around Johnson had a tendency to die at an early age or under suspicious circumstances. Just a little scary. It makes you wonder about our current group of political leaders. Can or will they resort to the same activity as Johnson and his "good ole boys"?

A hard to find collectors item.

This book has become a collectors item. It was written as an anti-Johnson screed by a Goldwater supporter in the run-up to the election, and in spite of it's obvious bias against Lyndon, it was the most in depth coverage of the Bobby Baker / Billy Sol Estes scandal I've seen. This book makes Washington corruption seem little different than your local Ward politics of another era. If you keep in mind that the author had an agenda when writing, you will probably find the LBJ as Vice President wheeling and dealing fascinating.

The 20% that gets you 80% of your Results

I love this book. For what it is. And for what it is not. I’m new to data science and “what it is NOT” is very important to me. It’s NOT a lot mind-numbing math. It’s NOT long intellectual detours into academic thinking that doesn’t really apply to the kind of projects I’m wanting to do. What it is… is the Pareto Principle: the 20% of what you do that gives you 80% of your results. This is at least that 20-40%. It’s the real world basics of data science / machine learning that I can learn and use in the real world.

It’s also like having a mentor in a book form. Throughout this book, Gutierrez provide hard learned, hard working insights about how you actually do data science on a day-to-day basis. Little things that have a big impact and save lots of wasted time. Little things that you could spend the next 10 years learning yourself. Or you could read this book. I highly recommend it for people new or intermediate in their data science /ML journey.

Excellent and most importantly, very updated book. This is the only data science book I read that heavily includes Gradient Boosting, which is the most popular method in Kaggle.

Discover Your True Potential

Contrary to what some have said in comedy routines and on talk radio, everyone has a brain. And in most instances, this brain is not utilized to its full potential. The power of the brain is tremendous and many individuals, although they often do not realize it, have incredible untapped potential that could easily catapult them to fulfilling their greatest dreams, if only they would take advantage of what nature has given them.

Awakening the Genie within is all about utilizing this underused power that exists inside every one of us and author Bettye Johnson is one person who practices what she preaches. She is a student of Ramtha, which is a school of enlightenment, and she awakened her own genie at the ripe old age of forty, completely changing her life from then forward. People awaken at different moments, but the point is that the potential for greatness is right there, inside every human mind, just wanting for you to take advantage.

Much of what this book talks about has been said by other authors many times and in many different books. Thousands of self- help books exist that are intended to help the individual reach his/her true potential, so this book doesn't earn many points for originality overall. However, this book does offer a few interesting points that make it a little different from the average self- help guide. One of the more unusual topics it discusses is the idea that a person can fend off illnesses and other health problems through positive attitude alone. What the author presents is very unscientific, but she is convinced that whether or not you are sick is due in large part to the thoughts in your head. The right attitude, according to the book, can help to eliminate many common illnesses.

As for the writing, this book is average overall and many readers will likely experience the same frustration that I felt as they traverse the pages. First, some of the sentence structure is weak. You can figure out what the book is trying to say, but it could have been stated more effectively with different words. The lists included in the book could also have been presented better. They look like they were downloaded directly from a word document without any editing. Then, there is the inconsistency with the quotations. Some chapters end with a quote; others do not. Some consistency would be nice.

This book is philosophical and attempts to inspire, but it only succeeds to a point. The focus on enlightenment is certainly a good one, and self- improvement/self respect is certainly an idea that is positive and can benefit anyone. But one thing that many will have trouble with is the book's conclusions. The idea that you are what you think you are and that your brain is capable of making many incredible things reality with the right programming is a bit much for me. I can agree that many things can be achieved with a change in attitude, but I don't think positive attitude alone is going to lead to great things for everyone. Often, it takes more than that.

This is a decent book overall and it will appeal to spiritual/philosophical types more than anyone else. I liked it more the more I read and while I don't think I will be enrolling in the school of enlightenment anytime soon, I can see how this type of training could prove to be an eye- opening experience for many and I can see how this book could lead some people to change their lives for better. For these reasons, this book deserves a recommendation. It could have been written better, but it still has some good points to make and helpful advice to dispense.

Awaken your own genie

Bettye Johnson believes that each of us has a genie within that can grant all our wishes. Awakening the Genie Within attempts to show us how to access this power.

The teacher, Ramtha, channeled through JZ Knight, and his School of Enlightenment have provided guidance to the author over the last twenty years. This book reveals some of the wisdom she has learned from him. In it, she touches on topics such as the law of attraction, the powers of the mind, healing, love and abundance. These are enhanced by Johnson's own experiences.

Although there is a lot of good material in this book, the organization is a bit haphazard, and the book has numerous typos, leading the reader to believe it may have been put together hastily. The author's experiences could also have been supplemented with other people's, giving a broader view on the subjects covered.

If this is the first book you've read on discovering your own power to manifest your life, it provides a basic framework that will encourage further reading. If you're already fluent in these studies, this book will give you only one person's experiences in following these principles successfully. The inspirational stories will leave you feeling good about life, eager to create positive changes for yourself.

A pleasure to read

Bettye Johnson reminds me so much of that wacky, eccentric great aunt that seems to exist in almost every family. You know the one, everyone talks about her like she's a little off her rocker, but yet, deep down, everyone wants to spend a little "alone" time with her because she's just so darn fun to be around! And, if you'll open your mind up a little and listen to what she is saying, some of it makes perfect sense!

Well, dear old aunt Bettye wrote a book and called it AWAKENING THE GENIE WITHIN: A JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY. Now I'm the first to admit I'm a die-hard conservative Christian minister, Dallas Theological Seminary and all that, but I'm also the first to tell you I don't question someone else's faith. If Bettye found enlightenment through the Ramtha and his School of Enlightenment, then so be it. I believe there are many avenues to take us to the answers we seek and those roads don't always look the same.

This was an enjoyable read. Some may scoff at some of the conclusions that were reached, but keep an open mind and remember that Ms. Johnson's path may have been a little different than yours. That's okay. It doesn't make her wrong, only different. The point is, she has traveled a long journey and has gained wisdom, which she has chosen to share with the rest of us. Absorb her gift of wisdom in the way it was meant and enjoy the ride.
