Airlann. The Source Isle of Magic. It is the Age of Autumn, the island locked in slow, beautiful death. Nine hundred years have passed since Jerrod II, last of the Goblin Kings, was assassinated by a child. After centuries of tyranny, the bloody days of human rule still haunt the long memories of the Fae. Their resplendent bastions have dwindled despite the peace, all but replaced by the superstitious squalor of mortal Man. The human peasantry cowers in remote villages, defending themselves with weapons of iron. The Red Caps, a fanatical army of goblins, have marshaled once more, intent on returning Jerrod’s tyrannical bloodline to power. Padric, a human farmhand and friend to the Fae, finds himself in the midst of the growing war. Rosheen, an alluring piskie and Padric’s lifelong friend, struggles to help him survive. They ally themselves with Deglan Loamtoes, a bigoted gnome herbalist, and Pocket, a changeling orphan fostered by the avian Knights of the Valiant Spur. Beset from all sides by vengeful skin-changers, bloodthirsty marauders and fire-crazed fanatics, these four wayfarers must discover the true identity of Jerrod’s long lost progeny before the goblins reawaken the genocidal soldiers of living iron known as the Forge Born. Can they lay aside their individual prejudices, reveal their long-held secrets, and work with those they distrust to prevent Airlann’s annihilation? Can they stand together to find and destroy the last scion of the Goblin Kings?

About the Author
Born in Tennessee, Jonathan began reading comics at an early age. (Conan the Barbarian Annual #11 was his first.) His love of fiction, folklore and by-gone days was further fueled when his family relocated to the United Kingdom. At the age of nine, Jonathan found himself crawling over castle ramparts, visiting old churchyards and getting neck strain marveling at towering cathedrals. He returned to the U.S. as a teenager where he survived parochial school and a rebellious year in New York City (where he unknowingly met his future wife), before earning his degree from Brevard College in the captivating wilds of Western North Carolina. After developing the world of Autumn's Fall, Jonathan moved to Chicago where he began writing in earnest. His greatest literary influences are Robert E. Howard and Lloyd Alexander. He currently resides in Atlanta with his wife, son and cat. More Autumn’s Fall is on the way! Visit him at www.exiledheir.com

This world is engaging. The characters are "fantastically" real. The story keeps you guessing, makes you laugh, scares you and takes you on a rewarding journey.

Fantastic Read
By Matt G
The author does a wonderful job of creating a world in which the reader easily gets lost. Full of deeply imagined and well-rounded characters, the narration of the story-line is phenomenal (and not to mention a wonderful read), and only equaled by the author's skill in guiding the reader through the action sequences. For those of you out there who enjoy reading fantasy novels, playing table-top RPGs, or just love immersing yourselves in new worlds to escape the mundanities of real-life, this book is a must-have for your library.

Good Read
By Rich
I wasn't sure what to think when I picked up Exiled Heir to read. My usual read is by authors who have already published several books. I used to think that the best reason for this was so I wouldn't be disappointed by an author's first work, and that someone with multiple books would have had more opportunity and need to hone their craft. For most, if their work wasn't that good, they would never publish a second, let alone a third.
Well, Exiled Heir gave me a new reason. Investment. As I read this book, I was immediately impressed by the level of immersion that the author, Jonathan, created in his world of Airlann. The races of beings that inhabit this world are new, yet somehow warm and familiar. No, not familiar in a sense that they were copied from some other work, but in a way that their design mannerisms seem natural and right. Even better are the well-oiled relations between these races, whether they be friend or foe to one another.
The story is fun and involving and paints a very complete picture, by immersing you in not only an intriguing story, but wrapping it in a cohesive and well designed history, giving the story and the whole world in which it occurs a great level of depth. We're not just seeing the typical "hero's quest" plot that occurs in many works of fantasy, but more so we are seeing the state of a land in the midst of change. We find out where it came from, how it has changed thus far, and are then sent on a journey with the protagonists to discover what it's future will hold.
The authors writing style itself is refreshingly fun. The characters and their dialogs are colorful. The story's plot is well-defined. I'm one of those readers who can usually see where a book is going before getting near the end chapters, but I found it a delight to reach the end and not feel like the story was railroaded along. All the way to the end of the book I found new subplots ending and starting, keeping my mind engaged throughout the book.
I mention investment above. I am absolutely invested in this story, and am eagerly awaiting the release of the next book in the series. If it lives up to the quality of the first installment, I have hopes that there will be many more on the way. My only regret is that I have to wait patiently before reading the next piece.
