What a rich family history!

A Noble Heritage: The History and Legacy of the Polonsky and Paull Family in America, by Dr. Jeffrey Mark Paull, has opened doors I didn’t know existed in my family’s quest to find our lost relatives. Through a DNA test for genealogy, our family discovered our lost Jewish roots (in fact I’ve already met with our local Rabbi!). Dr. Paull’s book has informed us through his thorough coverage of the history of the Jewish people and specifically, the history of the individuals tied to his family trees. I found Part VI—Moving Forward enlightening and made connections to my own family experiences. There are many helpful charts and other resources listed in Part VII—Genealogical Charts, Bibliography & Index. The book is well organized and written. What a treasure for those who share, and will share, this rich family history, and even for those like me who are searching for lost family.

Science, History, Detective Work, Human Drama

At first inspection, this would seem to be a book about one family or group of families, but it is really much more. Anyone who has wondered about his or her own ancestors and their lives can be inspired by the combination of science, history, detective work and human drama that went into the making of the book. The book no doubt has special meaning to the Paulls and Polonskys whose families are presented; and special meaning also to those who share their family heritage of lives as Jews in Europe and America. But it also has meaning and inspiration for all of us who have immigrated or who come from families whose ancestors immigrated. The author quotes Daniel Webster: “Those who do not look upon themselves as a link, connecting the past with the future, do not perform their duty to the world.”

This book was obviously a labor of love and is such an interesting read about the history of a Jewish family's roots and connections to ancient renowned rabbis and scholars.
